This person is not in the family's file. They exist here because an act names them, and this archive has read it. The register gives their trade as marinaro (sailor). The reading is Scilla, Matrimoni 1821 atto 29; Tavola annuale 1821. Nothing on this page comes from Michael's export, which never held them — so there is no tree account here to agree or disagree with, and the pieces the export arrived in do not include them. Why this person is here

FILIPPO ARENA'S BROTHER, AND THE FIRST SIBLING THIS ARCHIVE HAS EVER FOUND FOR HIM. Same parents, same trade, same town: «figlio di ORAZIO ARENA, di professione MARINARO, e di LITTERIA MORABITO». He married MARIA TERESA POLISTINA at Scilla on 13 November 1821, the promessa taken six days earlier before Tommaso Cutelli, the same sindaco who married Filippo in 1815. THE AGES ARE TIGHT: Filippo was born 25 March 1793 and Giuseppe's age puts him in 1794, eight to twenty months later -- possible, and equally possible that one declared age is a year out, which is routine here. NOTE THE NAME: the family tree holds a GIUSEPPE ARENA born 1860, son of Francesco Antonio -- TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE two generations apart, and the later one is named for this one, which is what the naming custom predicts.

These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
