Filippo Arena's wife, and now one of the best-attested people in this archive: her baptism of 1787, her marriage of 1815, her son's birth in 1819. ENTIRELY ABSENT FROM THE FAMILY TREE. Her parents are GIOVANNI DE COSTA, dead at Scilla on 29 March 1790 when she was two, and MARTA ALFONZETTI, who was still alive to consent to the marriage twenty-five years later. NOTE THE SURNAME: Costa is also what her great-grandson Rocco married, in Generosa Costa, and a Lorenzo Costa was lodging with Rocco in New York in 1900. THIS ROW ONCE SAID «HER MARRIAGE IS OUT OF REACH». It was in a volume nobody had opened, four years before the window this archive had drawn for itself.
