Alfio Nicotra
Of Giarre.
No family record in this archive names this person — not as a child, not as a spouse, not as a parent. They are held here because the tree holds them, and no relationship of theirs is recorded to draw.
This person is not in the family's file. They exist here because an act names them, and this archive has read it. The register gives their trade as lavorante. The reading is Mascali, Morti 1869 atto 63, read in the original. Nothing on this page comes from Michael's export, which never held them — so there is no tree account here to agree or disagree with, and the pieces the export arrived in do not include them. Why this person is here
«ALFIO NICOTRA di anni SETTANTATRE, di professione lavorante, NATO IN GIARRE e domiciliato in questo comune, FIGLIO DEL FU GIUSEPPE e della fu CATERINA [surname illegible], MORTA IN GIARRE». A Giarre-born man who died at Mascali. He is the father named in BOTH earlier Mascali Nicotra acts — Salvadore 1848 atto 118 (by Rosa Pappalardo) and Angela 1851 atto 108 (by Santa Previtera). TWO CAUTIONS. In the ACT BODY the surname cannot be separated from NICOLOSI; the INDEX entry is unambiguous and is what is recorded here. And the mother's surname is ILLEGIBLE — it is NOT the Leonarda Pennisi of the other Giarre household, because this wife is a CATERINA, and the father/mother columns are left blank rather than guess. Generation is inferred from birth year against SIMONE NICOTRA, who is gen 7 and born about 1776. NOBODY HERE IS ATTACHED TO THE TREE; the number places them in time, not in the descent.

These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
