«NICOTRA ALFIO, atto 75 — father SALVADORE, mother Maria Barbagallo». The THIRD Alfio Nicotra in this archive: the other two were born about 1772 and about 1796, and this one must not be merged with either. He carries his paternal grandfather's name, which is naming custom and so weak evidence by this archive's own rule — it is noted, not relied on. His father died at Mascali in December 1848, when he was three. READ FROM THE TAVOLA, NOT THE ACT: the annual index gives the entry, the parents and the date, and the act itself has not been opened. The Tavola's date column is the date of the act and may follow the birth by a few days. Generation is inferred from the parent's, against SIMONE NICOTRA at gen 7 and born about 1776.
