Where this comes from
2 of the 10 relationships drawn above have been proved by a record this archive has read. The other 8 come from Michael Mazza's family tree and have not.
6 records have been read about them:
- Brisbane Catholic Cemeteries register — plot V-0117 — burial register
- NAA: MP1103/1, Q8110 — «Prisoner of War/Internee: Mazza, Rosario; Date of birth - 20 February 1899; Nationality - Italian», 1942-1944 — internment dossier
- NAA: BP242/1, Q21227 — «Mazza, Rosario - Queensland investigation case file», 1940-1948 — investigation file
- NAA: J1737, MAZZA R — «Mazza Rosario, CAS 15000 - Civil Aliens Corps», 1944 — Civil Aliens Corps
- NAA: MP1103/1, Q8110 — documented
- NAA: J1737, MAZZA R (item 6305636); against NAA: MP1103/1, Q8110 — documented
HE WAS INTERNED. Michael Mazza's great-uncle was held as an enemy alien in the Second World War, and the dossier gives his birth date to the day. Open, at Melbourne, not digitised.
The Queensland security file that sits behind the internment. Open, at Brisbane, not digitised.
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE CAMP. Interned Italians were released into the Civil Aliens Corps and put to labouring work. Open, at Brisbane.
Birth date — BORN 20 FEBRUARY 1899. Given in the NAA's description of his internment dossier: «Prisoner of War/Internee: Mazza, Rosario; Date of birth - 20 February 1899; Nationality - Italian».
After the camp — HE WENT INTO THE CIVIL ALIENS CORPS. NAA: J1737, MAZZA R: «Mazza Rosario, CAS 15000 - CIVIL ALIENS CORPS (CAC)», Brisbane, 1944, ACCESS OPEN. The CAC was the labour corps that interned Italians were released into rather than freed -- road and timber work under military administration -- and CAS 15000 is his service number in it. This archive had his internment dossier, MP1103/1 Q8110, and then a silence. IT ALSO SITS BESIDE THE OTHER TWO. Mario Crupi was at Loveday from August 1942 and released on 30 December 1943; Antonino Crupi came out on 22 October 1943. Rosario's Corps file is 1944. The three men were moving through the same system within months of each other.
Where the two disagree, the chart above still draws the tree as it stands. This archive does not silently rewrite what it was given — the acts are here.

From the family's own tree, contributed by Michael Mazza and relatives. Almost none are captioned — identifications are the most valuable thing you can send.
Others of the same name
These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
