Filippo Arena
An ancestor of Mia and Rocco — generation 7 above them.

This person is not in the family's file. They exist here because an act names them, and this archive has read it. The register gives their trade as marinaro (sailor). The reading is Scilla, Nati 1819 atto 186; Matrimoni 1851 atto 13; Nati 1861 atto 228; Scilla, Nati 1819 atto 186 read in the processetti of 1851. Nothing on this page comes from Michael's export, which never held them — so there is no tree account here to agree or disagree with, and the pieces the export arrived in do not include them. Why this person is here
Named in FOUR independent acts. The sea trade runs Orazio -> Filippo -> Francesco Antonio -> Rocco, four generations of sailors, and he was a MARINARO himself at twenty-two. ENTIRELY ABSENT FROM THE FAMILY TREE. HE WAS ALSO, FOR FIVE DAYS, THE ARCHIVE'S PUBLISHED WALL -- «his marriage to Domenica Costa is pre-civil, the Arena line stops here» -- because this archive believed Scilla's registers began in 1816. THEY BEGIN IN 1809. He married Domenica Costa on 12 NOVEMBER 1815, Matrimoni atto 29, and the act names his parents ORAZIO ARENA and LITTERIA MORABITO, both alive and both standing beside him, because at twenty-two he was still a minor under the code. Every negative reported for 1816 to 1819 was correct; the conclusion drawn from them was not. AND HE COULD WRITE: he signed his own marriage act «Filippo Arena sposo», and signed his son's birth act in 1819, in registers where almost nobody signs.

These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
