Orazio Arena
Of Scilla, Reggio Calabria.
Every relationship drawn here comes from the family tree, and not one of them has yet been proved by a record. That is the honest state of this archive for this person: the chart shows what Michael Mazza's tree asserts, and the colour tells you only whether anything at all has been read about the person at the other end. The method →
- rocco arena — The register gives Rocco Arena's father as FRANCESCO ANTONIO ARENA, marinaro, not Orazio. Act 45 of 1860 and act 228 of 1861 give Francesco Antonio and Serafina Arlotta a Giuseppe and a Rocco -- the same sibling pair the tree assigns to Orazio.
- guiseppe arena — Act 45 of 1860 gives Giuseppe Arena's father as FRANCESCO ANTONIO ARENA. He is Rocco's elder brother by twenty-one months, and both were attached to the wrong father.
The chart still draws the family tree exactly as it was given. This archive does not silently rewrite someone else's research — it marks the edge and shows its working.

Where this comes from
All 4 of the relationships drawn above come from Michael Mazza's family tree, and none of them has been proved by a record this archive has read.
2 records have been read about them:
- Scilla, Nati 1856 atto 180 and 1859 atto 46 — two sons named Domenico — birth register
- Scilla, Nati 1821 atto 10; Nati 1833 atto 1 — candidate
The tree gives him no source at all, and gives him two children, Rocco and Guiseppe. THE REGISTER GIVES HIM NEITHER. Across 1856, 1858, 1859 and 1860 he and Giovanna Zirilli have Domenico (1856), Domenico (1859) and Maria Annunziata (1860); the Rocco and Giuseppe the tree assigns him belong to Francesco Antonio Arena and Serafina Arlotta. He is a real, well documented Scilla man who has been given another household's children. His first son being Domenico twice suggests, on naming custom alone, that his own father was a Domenico Arena -- a lead, not a finding.
Generation — a lead, RETRACTED — THIS ARCHIVE WITHDRAWS ITS OWN INFERENCE. From Orazio naming two sons Domenico, naming custom suggested his father was a Domenico Arena. Two Orazio Arena births at Scilla now say otherwise: act 10 of 1821 gives him a father GIUSEPPE (and the tree's own year, 1821, exactly), and act 1 of 1833 gives a different Orazio a father BONAVENTURA. Neither is a Domenico. The mistake was not the custom but the assumption behind it: the first child this archive had FOUND was not necessarily his FIRST child. The years 1850-1855 are unread, and a son Giuseppe in one of them would restore the custom exactly. Recorded as a candidate: ORAZIO ARENA b. 14 DECEMBER 1821, son of Giuseppe Arena and a Teresa. FURTHER EVIDENCE, BOTH WAYS: Orazio's earliest known child is a DAUGHTER, Teresa, born 17 October 1853. Custom names the first daughter for her paternal grandmother, and act 10 of 1821 makes Orazio's mother a Teresa -- which SUPPORTS the 1821 candidate. But that same act makes his father a Giuseppe, and Orazio's first son is Domenico, with 1852-1855 now read and no earlier son. The two halves disagree and the archive is not picking one.
Where the two disagree, the chart above still draws the tree as it stands. This archive does not silently rewrite what it was given — the acts are here.
