This person is not in the family's file. They exist here because an act names them, and this archive has read it. The reading is Scilla, Matrimoni processetti 1842-1845, fascicolo 20 (Nati 1816 atto 207; Nati 1818 atto 129); Matrimoni 1844, Tavola entry 17; Matrimoni 1845, atto 31. Nothing on this page comes from Michael's export, which never held them — so there is no tree account here to agree or disagree with, and the pieces the export arrived in do not include them. Why this person is here
CANDELORO DONATO'S WIFE. HER GIVEN NAME IS IN DISPUTE AND THE DISPUTE IS WORTH KEEPING. Her son's birth act of 18 December 1816, written while she was in the next room, reads «e da MAR-TA PALADINO, di anni trenta, sua moglie legittima» -- the name broken across a line, and the second line beginning plainly «ta». The 1844 marriage Tavola calls her «Paladino MARIA». The act is contemporaneous and primary and the Tavola is an index made up at the year's end, and THIS VERY INDEX SERIES HAS ALREADY BEEN CAUGHT GIVING A MOTHER THE WRONG NAME -- the 1854 Tavola calls Serafina Arlotta «Rosa», and that error briefly made a brother into a cousin. Against that: the same 1844 Tavola gets the OTHER mother in the same entry exactly right, «de Amico Maria», as her own daughter's birth act confirms. So the index is not uniformly careless. MARTA is published here because the act says it; MARIA is recorded because the index says it. Another child of Candeloro in the Scilla births of 1810-1830 would settle it.
