What is recorded

Nothing but a name and a place in the family. This person is known only because somebody else's record names them.

A register contradicts what is written above. The lines in this block are the family tree's account. One reading taken from the original acts disagrees with it — what the registers say →

Where this comes from

3 of the 4 relationships drawn above have been proved by a record this archive has read. The other 1 come from Michael Mazza's family tree and have not.

1 record has been read about them:

What a register says about this person, which the tree does not.

MICHELE DONATO'S FATHER, and a great-great-grandfather of Mia and Rocco. A sailor, like the Arena men. HE IS IN THE FAMILY TREE as Michele's father and nothing more -- no dates, no trade, no parents. This archive claimed for a time that he was absent; that was wrong. What is new is everything else about him: born about 1817, MARINARO, and son of CANDELORO DONATO and MARIA PALADINO, who are absent.

Where the two disagree, the chart above still draws the tree as it stands. This archive does not silently rewrite what it was given — the acts are here.

Others of the same name

These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
