Angela Cupo
Of Catania, Sicily.
Every relationship drawn here comes from the family tree, and not one of them has yet been proved by a record. That is the honest state of this archive for this person: the chart shows what Michael Mazza's tree asserts, and the colour tells you only whether anything at all has been read about the person at the other end. A register contradicts what is written above. The lines in this block are the family tree's account. 4 readings taken from the original acts disagree with it — what the registers say →
Where this comes from
All 3 of the relationships drawn above come from Michael Mazza's family tree, and none of them has been proved by a record this archive has read.
5 records have been read about them:
- Brisbane Catholic Cemeteries register — plot V-0116 — burial register
- NAA passenger arrivals index — the Viminale, 07 Dec 1937 — passenger index
- NAA: A12508, 31/1454 — «CRUPI [MAZZA] Angela born 20 December 1900; Maria age 15; Carmela age 8 ... per VIMINALE arriving in Brisbane on 7 December 1937» — alien passenger declaration
- Queensland death registration 1973/B/38514, against the Nudgee Catholic cemetery register — probable
- NAA: A12508, 31/1454 — documented
HER ARRIVAL, HER EXACT BIRTH DATE, AND BOTH DAUGHTERS, from one line of an archival description. It also contradicts the tree's claim that Carmela was born at Tully in 1926.
Surname — a garbling — ANGELA CRUPI, daughter of FRANCESCO CRUPI and MARIA VECCHIO. Her Queensland death registration of 10 January 1973 names both parents, and the Nudgee register interred her three days later in plot V-0116 beside her husband Rosario Mazza in V-0117. Born 1900 at Catania, died 1973 at Brisbane, which is exactly the woman the export holds. CUPO IS A GARBLING OF CRUPI, and this data does that often — «Lecota» for Nicotra and «Postamo» for Prostamo are both already on this page.
Birth date — BORN 20 DECEMBER 1900. The NAA's description of her alien passenger declaration gives the day: «CRUPI [MAZZA] Angela born 20 December 1900».
Crossing -- missing entirely — ARRIVED BRISBANE 7 DECEMBER 1937 ON THE VIMINALE, with two daughters -- «Maria age 15; Carmela age 8». The archive had no arrival for her and no idea the Mazza were in Australia this early.
Where the two disagree, the chart above still draws the tree as it stands. This archive does not silently rewrite what it was given — the acts are here.

The crossing
FROM HER ALIEN PASSENGER DECLARATION, not from the passenger index -- «CRUPI [MAZZA] Angela born 20 December 1900; Maria age 15; Carmela age 8; nationality Italian; travelled per VIMINALE arriving in Brisbane on 7 December 1937». THE ARCHIVE HAD NO CROSSING FOR HER AT ALL and no sense that this family was in Australia before the war. She comes with TWO DAUGHTERS and she comes to BRISBANE, which is where Rosario Mazza is on the electoral roll twenty-two years later. — National Archives of Australia, passenger arrivals index 1898–1972, read 10 September 2026.
