Serafina Arena1912 – 1912

No family record in this archive names this person — not as a child, not as a spouse, not as a parent. They are held here because the tree holds them, and no relationship of theirs is recorded to draw.

This person is not in the family's file. They exist here because an act names them, and this archive has read it. The reading is Scilla, Morti 1912, parte I, atto 83. Nothing on this page comes from Michael's export, which never held them — so there is no tree account here to agree or disagree with, and the pieces the export arrived in do not include them. Why this person is here

A CHILD THIS ARCHIVE DID NOT KNOW EXISTED, found while trying to prove something else. Rocco Arena and Generosa Costa had a daughter SERAFINA born at Scilla about May 1912 who lived three months. SHE IS THE SECOND SERAFINA: the first was baptised at Our Lady of Loretto, Manhattan, on 15 August 1898, and the couple gave the name again in Calabria fourteen years later -- the same reading this archive makes of their TWO SONS NAMED ANTONIO. NOTE WHAT SHE PROVES INCIDENTALLY: the household was at Scilla and still having children in 1912, which is the return from America seen from the inside, and GENEROSA COSTA was bearing a child at about forty-four. Her father is «ROCCO, MARINARO» here and «PESCATORE» on his own death act of 1932.

These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
