Diego Arena

Of Scilla.

Diego Arenab. 1808

No family record in this archive names this person — not as a child, not as a spouse, not as a parent. They are held here because the tree holds them, and no relationship of theirs is recorded to draw.

This person is not in the family's file. They exist here because an act names them, and this archive has read it. The register gives their trade as marinaro (sailor). The reading is Scilla, Morti 1830 atto 64. Nothing on this page comes from Michael's export, which never held them — so there is no tree account here to agree or disagree with, and the pieces the export arrived in do not include them. Why this person is here

ONE OF THE TWO MEN WHO DECLARED ORAZIO ARENA'S DEATH, and the act calls him «NIPOTE DEL DEFONTO» -- which in Italian is nephew OR grandson and this archive will not choose for it. A MARINARO at twenty-two, like the man he was burying. TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE from the Diego Arena, sartore, who was thirty-seven in 1813: that one was born about 1776. His exact place in the household is unresolved and the Scilla birth registers of 1808 would settle it.

These three towns repeat their names relentlessly — this archive holds four men called Rosario Mazza and four called Giuseppe Arena. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one. Why →
